Our History Pohjoisranta was founded in 1995, when the three founding shareholders – Jouni Heinonen, Esa Laurila and Tommi Siikaniva – set out to renew the Finnish communications agency culture. The company’s first office was located in a basement, at Pohjoisranta 6. From early on, reputation stood out as a significant feature of Pohjoisranta. Heinonen and Dr. Pekka Aula, a minor shareholder at Pohjoisranta, were the first spokesmen of reputation theory in Finland and they have written several books on the subject. Pohjoisranta has also conducted regular research on the reputation of companies and communities since 2001. The aim of the founders was to make Pohjoisranta the best and largest communications agency in Finland. In 2010, Pohjoisranta was nominated the communications agency with the best image in Finland, in a corporate image survey carried out by Taloustutkimus. In 2012, the Holmes Report chose Pohjoisranta as the best communications agency in the Nordic countries and in 2014 we were again chosen as the best communications agency in Finland in Taloustutkimus’ image survey. Pohjoisranta has worked with Burson-Marsteller since 2016, and has been part of the firm´s network since 2012. We have colleagues in over 100 countries, enabling us to share information on best practices across the world. Burson-Marsteller was founded in the USA in 1953, when Bill Marsteller and Harold Burson decided to unite forces. Today, Burson-Marsteller is among the world’s leading PR and communications companies.
